Former Farmer’s Market Re-Shaped into Historic Apartment Building

Luxury Apartments & Lofts in Uptown Shelby, NC are Almost Ready for Occupancy

Where there once was a Farmer’s Market, now sits the construction site of one of Studio Fusion’s recent projects – Farmer’s Market Historic Apartments. Built in the early 1920s, the brick building on your right is the location of a former Farmer’s Market on Warren St. in Shelby, North Carolina. Located a block away from Lafayette Street, this apartment location provides numerous uptown restaurants and shops in walking distance for the residents.

Wade Nichols, Executive Director of the Uptown Shelby Association, says this apartment project is “a wonderful thing.” Nichols explains that there is a need for more apartments as most of the residential units in the uptown area remain full.**

Projected to be finished in April of 2012, this project will consist of 12 total apartments, a skylight, and possibly a roof-top patio. Including one and two bedroom apartments ranging in size from 1,300 to 1,800 square feet, there will be 6 apartments on the top floor and 6 on the bottom floor. In order to give off the luxurious yet still historic vibe, the hard wood floors are re-claimed/re-finished and the living rooms feature exposed existing brick walls.

Quoted in the Shelby Star newspaper, Mayor Ted Alexander seems very excited about this project. “That particular building has a lot of charm, a lot of character,” says Alexander. “Its original windows, old flooring, it’ll make really nice apartments.”**

1970′s Manufacturing Building Transformed into Modern Work Space

Project Profile: Ingersoll Rand Corporate Headquarters
47,479 Square footagee   |  Davidson, North Carolina
Completed on an accelerated schedule, the transformation of a former 1970s manufacturing building into office space help ease a lack of real estate on Ingersoll Rand’s corporate campus and executive headquarters. The client desired to create a more innovative and collaborative space for the employees that would also allow future spacing flexibility. To stay in live with the client’s corporate mission of safety, comfort, and efficiency, we created an airy, modern space using LEED tenance as a guiding principle.

The proverbial walls came down as the change management piece of the project were as important as the design of the space itself. Much was done on the front end of the schedule to communicate the improvements that were going to be made and that would positively affect the atmosphere of the “pioneers” who were willing to trust the vision of the team for something so different for their Headquarter’s campus.
With the addition of a mezzanine level, ceiling-to-floor windows, a sky light and several other interior additions, this manufacturing space quickly turned into a modern office environment that Ingersoll Rand’s Executives were fighting over.

A Bark House Wall and Logo-Etched Tint Add Pizzazz to this Headquarter’s Office Space

The headquarters of Commercial Flooring Solutions (CFS), located in Charlotte, NC, is the result of the company’s growth into six other states on the East Coast. With the addition of double glass doors, a logo-etched glass tint, custom bark wood-paneled walls, new cabinetry, and several other modifications, we transformed the CFS breakroom, conference room, and executive offices into a clean and modern work environment.

Nan Miller

Nan Miller says, “The client loved rich, dark woods and wanted an unique design flare distinguish their space. The Bark House panels in their newly renovated Conference Room would do just that. From the moment we both saw the Bark House sample, we were sold! The natural wood walls blended nicely with their modern design wood furniture. Their new storefront glass system also allowed for the Bark House panels to be shown off not only in the Conference Room but throughout their new open office area as well. These walls became one of the focal features in the office.”

CFS was not going for any LEED certification but we did use some green materials such as:

1. The tile floor in their renovated break room was Lea Ceramiche, Bioessenze which is manufactured with 40% or pre-consumer recycled materials. Bioessenze is obtained by means of a safe production cycle that fully respects the environment since it does not emit pollutants into the atmosphere and water. It uses widely available natural resources, no trees are felled and it recycles ceramic waste from manufacturing at an amount of 20% of its weight. Click here to view this product on their website.

We also used Hanstone countertops in their renovated break room. Click here to view their green literature PDF.

The GC was Harker Doerre and Allen Holloway was their Project Manager.
